Level Up: How to Host a College & Career Fair Students Actually Want to Attend

Back-to-school season isn’t just about fresh kicks, new fits and getting back in the groove of things. It’s the perfect time to help students start thinking about what comes after high school—whether that’s college, a career or figuring out their next move.

If you’re ready to level up your college & career fair game, here’s how to make it a vibe students won’t forget—while keeping it stress-free for you.

1. Set the Tone: Make It Feel Like Their Space

A college & career fair shouldn’t feel like another boring lecture. Bring the energy!

  • Play a student-approved playlist as they walk in. (Pro tip: Let students vote on the songs in advance!)
  • Get student ambassadors to welcome people at the door. Nothing hits better than seeing your peers involved.
  • Set up fun signage with words like “What’s Your Next Move?” or “Level Up Your Future.”

2. Mix It Up: Not Just Colleges

Sure, colleges are key—but don’t stop there.

  • Bring in local businesses, trade schools, unions and apprenticeship programs.
  • Invite young alumni to share their “real talk” about their journey.
  • Got a local entrepreneur or artist? Ask them to come and inspire!

The goal: Show students all the possibilities—not just the 4-year route.

3. Keep It Casual (and Feed Them!)

Let’s be honest: food gets people through the door.

  • Partner with a local pizza spot or food truck for free slices.
  • Offer snacks at stations—think chips, cookies, or candy jars as giveaways.
  • Bonus: Create a chill “Grub & Goals” lounge where students can eat and chat informally with reps.

4. Make It Interactive

Nobody wants to just grab a brochure and bounce.

  • Create a scavenger hunt or “passport” where students visit a certain number of tables to win a prize.
  • Set up a selfie station with props like graduation caps, hard hats, or “Future CEO” signs.
  • Use QR codes at each table for students to easily save info to their phones.

5. Don’t Forget the Follow-Up

The fair’s just the beginning.

  • Send a recap text or email with links to schools, programs and career sites.
  • Host a “Real Talk After the Fair” lunch (or Link-Up) where students can debrief and ask questions.
  • Post pics and shoutouts on your school’s social media—highlight student engagement and keep the convo going.

Final Word

A college & career fair isn’t about pushing one path—it’s about opening doors, sparking ideas, and showing students, they’ve got options. Make it fun, make it real, and most of all, make it about them.

Ready to slay your back-to-school fair? Let’s get it!
